The dates of the meeting coincide with the summer solstice, which is one of the high points of the year in Alaska. There will be almost 22 hours of daylight in Denali National Park each day during the meeting. (Note: even if there is popular demand, we will not be having "sunrise breakfast meetings".) This will allow participants ample opportunity outside the scheduled program for recreational activities. One or more hikes will be organized within the park during the afternoons of the meeting, and meeting attendees are encouraged to visit the various permanent exhibits in the Riley Creek complex of Denali National Park.

Average temperatures in the park during June range from highs of 18 C (64 F) to 4 C (39 F), and there is an average of 60 mm (2.4") of rainfall during that month. Participants are advised to pack accordingly; the local organizing committee suggests "layering".

Visitors who wish to tour the interior of Denali National Park should plan to allocate a full day for that purpose, e.g. the round-trip to Wonder Lake requires a full day (0615 to 1715.) Since the period from mid-June to mid-August also sees the largest number of visitors to the park, reservations are absolutely essential. There are two types of buses that travel within the park: shuttles (non-narrated, flag stops) and coaches (narration by a trained naturalist, not set up for passengers to disembark and re-board.) Costs on the shuttle moderate ($46.00 to Wonder Lake) and higher on the coaches ($115 for the tour that goes at least to Toklat River.) Reservations must be made with the bus concessionaire; early reservations are strongly encouraged.

The local organizing committee can give some limited assistance to participants who wish to take the opportunity of being in the heart of Alaska by extending their trip, either before or after the meeting.
